In
response to the increased sophistication
of the modern vessel and the serious
shortfall in adequately qualified
seagoing personnel, Marlow Navigation
is investing heavily in general and
specialised marine training.
With the support of Marlow clients,
Marlow Navigation funds the Quality
and Safety Centre which operates the
training ship EMSSTROM, based at Leer
in north Germany. Here, officers and
ratings from many countries receive
theoretical, practical and upgrading
training from experienced northern
European officers and instructors.
Technical, safety and specialist training,
leading to internationally recognised
qualifications as defined in the STCW
95 Convention, take place on board
the training ship.
The three year Cadet Courses leading
to operational level deck and engine
Certificates for Marine Academy graduates
are particularly successful. Under
full supervision, carefully selected
cadets acquire first hand deck and
engine experience aboard the EMSSTROM.
Upon completion of the course these
cadets are highly trained navigators,
engineers and technicians, fully prepared
to be entrusted with positions on
board.
Marlow Navigation also operates a
marine training centre in Manila,
with all facilities and equipment
for deck and engine crew training
as well as a fully equipped galley
for training cooks and stewards. Furthermore,
similar training activities are carried
out in Odessa. In addition to these
initiatives, there is a very close
co-operation between Marlow and several
Marine Academies and other educational
and training centres world wide. |
